Cherry Bars

Cherry Bars

2 sticks oleo or butter
1  3/4 c. sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
pinch of salt
1 can cherry pie filling

Cream oleo, sugar, eggs, and vanilla until light.  Add flour, baking powder, and salt.   Spread into a jelly roll pan.  Dot with cherry pie filling (I use a teaspoon and put some by spoonful all over the top).  Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.  Drizzle the top with a thin powdered sugar icing made with powdered sugar, milk, and a little soft margarine.  #Note:  I have used blueberry filling as well, and it was very good.
