Cherry Kolache

1 c. butter
1 3/4 c. sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. almond flavoring
2 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
pinch of salt
1 can cherry pie filling (I add another 1/2 can)

Beat butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla until fluffy. Add dry ingredients. Dough will be thick. Spread half of dough on greased jelly roll pan. Spread pie filling over dough. Drop spoonfuls (I add a little water) of remaining dough over pie filling. Bake at 350° for 30-40 minutes. Do not overbake. While still warm, glaze with powdered sugar icing.  I make icing with powdered sugar, milk and add almond flavoring.
