Cherry or Peach Cobbler

Cherry or Peach Cobbler

1/4 c. butter or oil
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. milk
1 c.  flour
1/8 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. sugar
sliced fresh peaches or 1 can tart cherries
1 c water

Cream oil, sugar, and milk.  Add flour, salt, and baking powder.  Set aside.  Pour cherries in a 9 inch pan.  Pour 1 c. sugar over top.  Spoon cake mixture over cherries (or fresh peaches).  Pour 1 c. water over top.  Bake for 45 minutes at 375 degrees.
