Fudgy Oatmeal Squares

1 1/2 c. original oatmeal
2 1/4 c. boiling water
2 1/4 c. sugar
3/4 c. shortening
3 eggs
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. cocoa
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Stir together oatmeal and boiling water, set aside. Cream together sugar, and shortening.  Add eggs and flour and mix well.  Sift together cocoa, baking soda, salt and vanilla and add to shortening mixture.  Then add oatmeal.  Beat all together for 3 minute at medium speed.  Pour into greased 10x15x1 pan.  Bake at 350° for 30 minutes.  Cool and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
