2 c. sugar
2 c. flour
1 stick butter
1/2 c. shortening
3 T. baking cocoa
1 c. water
1/2 c. buttermilk
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
Preheat oven to 400°. Sift together sugar and flour and set aside. Bring butter, cocoa, shortening and water to a boil, cool. Add sugar/flour mixture. Beat in buttermilk, eggs, vanilla and soda. Mix with a mixer. Pour into greased and floured sheet pan. Bake for 20 minutes.
Frosting:
1 stick butter
3 T. cocoa
4-6 T. milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 lb. box powdered sugar
While cake is baking, make the frosting. Melt together the butter, cocoa and milk. Add vanilla and enough of the powdered sugar to make a runny consistency, about one pound. Frost cake as soon as it come from the oven.
