Savannah Squares Hazelnut Crunch

Served at Adrians Boutique many times!

(Forgot to take a picture!  It looks like Chex Mix with almonds! Next time!!!)


6 c. Rice Chex Cereal
2 c. whole almonds
1/4 c. butter
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. Southern Hazelnut Mix*
1/2 tsp. baking soda


Stir together 6 cups of Rice Chex cereal and 2 cups whole almonds in a 9×13 pan. Melt 1/4 cup butter and 1/2 cup brown sugar, and 1/2cup of Southern Hazelnut Mix. Heat until boiling, then simmer for two minutes. Add 1/2 teaspoon baking soda and stir until foamy. Pour mixture over cereal and nuts and stir to coat well. Bake at 250 for one hour, stiring mixture once. Remove from oven and spread on a cookie sheet to cool. For a sweet and spicy version of this recipe, add cayenne pepper to taste to liquid mixture prior to boiling.

*We have made this in several additional flavors:
Savannah Almond Mix
Savannah Cinnamon Mix or
Savannah Praline Mix.

You may substitute Pecans for the Almonds if you like!

Just one comment. I love to copy your recipes but I wish you could change things so that it does not take 4 pages to print a recipe. Thanks, Imogene Hall

Hi Imogene… We are well aware of the problem and have worked on it several times… Until we get it fixed, you might want to just highlight the text that you want to print and paste it onto a word document or notepad to print it out. Thanks! Vicki

To the person that doesn’t want to print 4 pages to get a recipe, before printing just check 1 page and you get just the recipe . Joan
