Sloppy Joe’s

Ruth Meyer
Castle Rock, Colorado

6 T. shortening (I don’t use the shortening)
3 lbs. hamburger
3 large onions, diced
1 T. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1 tsp. Worchestershire sauce
1/4 c. flour
1 bottle catsup
15 oz. can diced tomatoes

Melt shortening in a large heavy skillet. Add ground beef and diced onion and cook until nicely browned.  Drain most of the grease off.  Add seasonings.  Sprinkle flour over the hot mixture, blending well.  Add tomatoes and catsup. Let sauce simmer for 10-15 minutes until thickened.  Serve hot on split buns, buttered and lightly toasted.  Makes approximately 12-15 sandwiches.

*Note: This is another family favorite and my mother has made this our whole life!  We served this at many youth group and school functions while we were young, and I have served them to clients in our store during events as well.  Hope YOUR family enjoys it just as much as we have.
