Spice Cake

2 c. water
1 c. raisins
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 3/4 to 2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. ground allspice
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 c. nuts

Bring water and raisins to a boil. Lower heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside. Do not drain. Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and raisins. Combine dry ingredients and stir in. Bake in a cake pan for approximately 20 minutes at 350°.

Frosting

1 c. brown sugar, packed
1/3 c. half and half, or milk
1/4 tsp. salt
3 T. margarine or butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/4 c. powdered sugar

Combine brown sugar, milk and salt and bring to a boil over medium/low heat. Cook and stir unil smooth. Stir in butter and vanilla. Take off heat and cool slightly. Add powdered sugar and stir until smooth, then put on cake. Can add nuts to the top of the frosting if desired.
