Ruth's Brownies

Brownies:
2 c. sugar
2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
4 T. cocoa
1/2 c. margarine
1 c. water
1/2 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. soda (dissolve in buttermilk)
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix sugar, flour, salt, and cocoa Melt margarine and shortening, add water, buttermilk (including soda) eggs and vanilla. Pour over dry ingredients and mix well. Spread in greased pan and bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes.

Frosting:
1/2 c. margarine
4 T. cocoa
5 or 6 T. milk
1 lb. powdered sugar
1/4 tsp. sugar

Heat margarine, cocoa and milk until margarine melts. Mix powdered sugar and salt. Pour cocoa mixture over powdered sugar. Mix well, and if desired, add nuts. Frost brownies while still warm.
